Chocolate cake anyone?

I had wanted to make a cake today, but found that I can not stand for very long after yesterday's jaunt to Sears for children's clothes for our family pictures this Thursday. I asked my oldest daughter Melody if she would like to make it instead. I know I could have still made the cake, but Melody has been wanting to bake something on her own, and this is just one of the areas I need to back off and let her grow.

So, without a mix, my 12 year old daughter has (as of right now) made a chocolate cake and has placed the two 9 inch round pans into the oven to bake. She is now getting the ingredients together to make her own icing. She has asked me to supervise its creation to make sure it comes out right.

I am so proud of her. Sure, its cake. But it is more than that. I am watching her become an independent, capable woman. I am so blessed to have given birth to such a wonderful person and to be a part of her life.

  1. That looks awesome. We are so proud of her and are sad we are missing on on trying it.

  2. It is really, really good. I've asked her to make Lucian's birthday cake next week.
